HAIR ORNAMENT

I’ve been creating a collection of hammer textured sterling silver jewelry. Among this collection is a minimal circle hair ornament. Here, It’s holding my hair in a french twist. I created a silver wire with a 14 karat gold ball to hold this style in place.

This versatile hammered circle can even double as a brooch for a loose weave scarf.

BANGLE BRACELETS

To make high quality sterling silver jewelry you need high quality metal smithing tools. Pictured here is one of my favorite tools, a Bill Fretz chasing hammer. I put to use making the silver bangle bracelet sitting on top of it.

SWIRL RING

The jewelry we choose to wear is a reflection of many things: our tastes, our selves, commitments we’ve made, celebrations and memories. What’s your style ? Do you make understated choice most of the time? Are the rings you wear a reflection of a busy life style, uncomplicated and functional?

There are days I like to add a bit of fun and whimsey to the day just for the fun of it. On those days, I head towards an outside the box choice in the accessories I wear. I find myself smiling when I wear my swirl ring,.

OVAL SEA WEED EARRINGS

Sea weed and sand oxided silver dangle earring are a one of a kind unique earring that I’m loving to make lately. They’re an addition to any contemporary beach jewelry collection.

I collect and process the seaweed I find on the beach, the process it over time. It’s a busy process and nonstop in my one person studio.

WIRE HOOP EARRINGS

Wire hoop earrings are a go to choice for me. They are a great accessory for so many outfits. The thin yet sturdy sterling silver wire makes them very comfortable to wear. The colors, cool sterling silver, black onyx and warm gold filled embellishments on the hoops lends them to mix and match gold or silver jewelry pieces.

JASPER NECKLACE

Red Jasper is one of my favorite earth stones. Some native cultures consider it sacred because it symbolizes the blood of the earth.  Jasper has beautiful lines running through it, sometimes clear or black. I’m so fortunate to have come across a gorgeous string of Red River Jasper beads to create with.

I designed 30 inch long, graduated bead necklace from this string. It goes well with the subdued and rich autumn palette of colors. This necklace slips easily over your head making so easy to wear and is great for a layered with other pieces

ENGRAVED RING

Many years ago a very skilled engraver created a tie tack and embellished it with a beautiful floral design. The engraving work is masterful and elegant.

I received a commission to transform the domed component of the tie tack into a ring. I carefully took the tie tack apart and created a split shank ring band to mount the oval component onto.

WHEN SUMMER ENDS

The New Yorker cover says it all for the closing of summer. This iconic image, painted in 1952 by Perry Barlow timelessly captures the last days of summer on the beach.

It’s time to shift focus from the beach to warmer clothes, new outfits and autumn activities. What will you be wearing for the fall?

LAST DAY OF AUGUST

I can hardly believe it’s the last day of August today. When summer ends shadows are longer, the sun isn’t quite so hot and it sets too early, for my liking. Plant leaves are a heavy dull green color, exhausted from the waves of intense summer heat.

I decided it’s time to start thinking abut putting aside my sea glass jewelry and begin looking toward cooler weather accessories. I’m working on a delicate sterling silver tube set cubic zirconia ring, like the one I’m wearing here. It’s nice to have a bit of sparkle as the days grow shorter.

WATER RIPPLE DANGLE EARRING

Water ripples in the sea are mesmerizing to watch. When I swim, I love to watch them on the surface of the sea and and at the same time, peek past them to the sandy ocean floor. These one of a kind earrings capture both the surface ripples and sea weed passing under them.

Details include sterling silver oxidized earrings with etched sea weed, polished edges, 925 international sterling silver stamp, wire wrapped ear wires and corrugated bead detail.

VERTICAL BAR PENDANT WITH MIXED METALS

Vertical bar necklaces come in many variations. I fabricated this one of a kind, one inch pendant from distressed sterling silver and three 14 karat gold, graduated balls. The surface softly reflects light as you move.

This sculptural piece coordinates with dress up or dress down and any season. Wear it with gold or silver earrings.

BEACH LANDSCAPE

I did this plein air mixed media pastel and water color on textured water color paper at Cedar Beach, New York walking trail. In the height of summer on a very hot and sunny day I sat outside and worked. I love how the cedar trees punctuate the landscape, they are the essence of Long Island landscape. I visit this beautiful spot often and continue to draw there.
