Flowers are among nature’s crowning glories and this ring is an ode to their beauty. It serves as a reminder of warm summer days with buzzing insects and fragrance wafting through the air. Its a memory of cool seasons as well.
Today I went into the garden, not expecting to see much in the way of color. It’s a cold, windy day, the brilliant autumn color display of trees and shrubs have turned to crunchy brown. Fallen leaf shapes on the ground tend to catch my attention. To my delight though, a few flowers popped their colorful heads out among the dried, lifeless leaves; one yellow tea rose and a few red gomphrenia. These were brave gems in the cold, dormant landscape and they stood out like a ruby in a black man’s ear. These were the last of the season. With an air of melancoly mixed with joy, I picked them and made a small bouquet for the house.
Intoxicating warm sunny days in the garden will return but for now I’m reminded those days reflected in the petal’s shape and the coolness of this autumn day, reflected in the cool silver color. When I glance at ring on my finger, I’ll remember and smile.
